Mired by disappointing earnings and angry activist shareholders over the past 12 months, Bed Bath & Beyond plans to close 40 stores in the first half of 2020.

Company officials shared the list of affected locations with USA Today, saying the stores “no longer meet the standards our customers expect from us.” The move, which was announced in an earnings call on Jan. 8, comes after the chain shut down 14 locations in 2019.

20 additional Bed Bath & Beyond stores are scheduled to close in the latter half of the year, but the company has not identified those locations.

The closings will impact stores in 19 states and the District of Columbia. Bed Bath & Beyond’s parent company also operates buybuy Baby, Harmon Face Values and World Market stores. None of those were impacted in this announcement.
