las vegas airport shooting resume
Police form a perimeter around the road leading to the Mandalay Hotel (background) after a gunman killed at least 50 people and wounded more than 400 others when he opened fire on a country music concert in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 2, 2017. The gunman who opened fire on concertgoers from 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel was found dead, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, when a police SWAT team burst in, authorities said Monday. They said at least eight weapons, including a number of long rifles, were found in the room from where 64-year-old Stephen Paddock rained automatic fire into thousands of terrified people attending a country music concert across the street."We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry," Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said. / AFP PHOTO / Mark RALSTON (Photo credit should read MARK RALSTON/AFP/Getty Images)MARK RALSTON—AFP/Getty Images

McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas resumed its full flight schedule Monday morning, after suspending service in the wake of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Officials had redirected planes from the airport in the hours directly following the attack, as police conducted the investigation at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino nearby. Roughly two dozen flights were diverted from the airport, which said Monday morning on Twitter that it would continue with full service.

“With heavy hearts, [McCarran] is pressing on this morning with full operations,” the airport said. “It’s critical we help air travelers get to/from their homes.”

At least 50 people were killed hundreds more injured, police said, when a gunman on the 32nd floor of his hotel opened fire on the crowd of more 22,000 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival across the street from the Mandalay Bay.

Redirected flights landed at nearby major airports, with the planes heading to cities such as Phoenix and Salt Lake City.

Still, street closures affected access to McCarran’s west side of the airfield on Monday morning. The airport said that would not affect commercial flights.

UPDATE: Access to west side of @LASairport airfield is limited. Tour helicopter operators, other businesses located there will be affected.
