Uber, the car service company, is upping its consumer game ahead of the holiday season.
The company announced Monday the launch of Uber Gift Cards, for “anyone who could use the gift of easy, safe, stress-free travel and transportation.”
The cards are available in amounts ranging from $15 to $500, and will be coming to 35,000 stores nationwide—Walmart (WMT), Target (TGT), or wherever you typically purchase gift cards—in the next few weeks.
“Whether it’s exploring a new city, a night out with friends, or simply a safe ride home, Uber is ready to help get the special people in your life where they want to go,” Uber’s Drew Quinn wrote on the company’s blog.
This summer, Uber competitor Lyft introduced gift cards at select Starbucks across the country. The smaller gift card rollout was limited to $20 denominations.
While Uber’s gift card news isn’t as exciting as self-driving cars, it is likely to reach a bigger customer base and further expand the company’s reach beyond major urban centers.
