On Solyndra, let’s stick to real arguments.
Regular readers know that I consider Solyndra to be a bad investment, rather than some Obama Administration conspiracy to help out wealthy donors. But that doesn’t mean I’m down with disingenuous attacks on GOP Congressmen who have been beating the dead solar company.
Check out the following headline today from HuffingtonPost:
This has been sitting near the top of the left-leaning news site all day, and is based on comments Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) made to a trade publication called Environment & Energy Daily. Here is what Jordan was quoted as saying:
“Our staff will continue to dig into it and see. But what I hope happens is we stop doing these kind of things … this whole cronyism approach to the marketplace. Ultimately, we’ll stop it on Election Day, hopefully. And bringing attention to these things helps the voters and citizens of the country make the kind of decision that I hope helps them as they evaluate who they are going to vote for in November.”
HuffingtonPost reads this as Jordan saying that the investigations into Solyndra is what Jordan is referring to when he says “we’ll stop it on Election Day.” In other words, an admission that the Solyndra investigations are little more than political posturing.
Except that Jordan clearly was referring to stopping what he believes is an epidemic of crony capitalism, preferably via a GOP victory over Obama in November.
There are plenty of good reasons to criticize the political theater surrounding Solyndra. So let’s not pretend someone said something nefarious, when he didn’t.
