Joule, a Bedford, Mass.-based developer of technology to convert carbon dioxide into ethanol, has raised $70 million in third-round funding. The deal included existing shareholder Flagship Ventures, plus “new and prior undisclosed institutional and private sources.” www.jouleunlimited.com

Code 42 Software Inc., a Minneapolis-based developer of onsite, offsite and online backup solutions for both consumers and businesses, has raised $52.5 million in new VC funding. Accel Partners led the round, and was joined by Split Rock Partners. www.code42.com

Tidemark (f.k.a. Proferi), a Redwood City, Calif.–based provider of enterprise cloud performance analytics, has raised $24 million in new VC funding. Redpoint Ventures led the round, and was joined by return backers Greylock Partners, Andreessen Horowitz and Dave Duffield (Workday co-founder).www.tidemark.net

SendGrid, a Boulder, Colo.-based provider of email deliverability solutions, has raised $21 million in Series B funding. Bessemer Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by return backers Foundry Group, Highway 12 Ventures, SoftTechVC, 500 Startups and Bullet Time Ventures. www.sendgrid.com

RaNA Therapeutics Inc., a Cambridge, Mass.-based drug developer focused on modulating disease-associated long non-coding RNA, has raised $20.7 million in new VC funding. Backers include Atlas Venture, SR One Ltd., Monsanto and Partners Innovation Fund.

Sharecare, an interactive health and wellness social platform, has raised $14 million in new VC funding.Galen Partners led the round, and was joined by TomorrowVentures. In related news, Sharecare has acquired The Little Blue Book from Galen Partners and other investors, in exchange for additional Sharecare stock. www.sharecare.com

PivotLink, a San Francisco-based SaaS provider of retail performance management solutions, has raised $13 million in new VC funding. Return backers include Trident Capital, Emergence Capital Partners, Starvest Partners and Pelion Venture Partners (via recent acquisition of Acteea Inc.).www.pivotlink.com

Recon Instruments, a Vancouver-based developer of micro optics display technology for outdoor sports participants, has raised C$10 million in Series A funding. Vanedge Capital led the round, and was joined by Kopin Corp. www.reconinstruments.com

Carticept Medical Inc., an Alpharetta, Ga.-based developer of medical devices for patients with osteoarthritis or cartilage damage, has raised $10 million in new VC funding. Return backers include Domain Associates, New Enterprise Associates and SonoSite Inc. The company previously raised $53 million. www.carticept.com

Change Healthcare Corp., a Brentwood, Tenn.-based provider of healthcare cost transparency solutions, has raised $9.3 million in Series C funding. Backers include BlueCross BlueShield Venture Partners, Sandbox Industries, Mitsui & Co., West Health Investment Fund and Solidus Company.www.changehealthcare.com

Wrapp, a social gifting service with offices in Sweden and Silicon Valley, has raised $5 million in Series A funding from Greylock Partners and seed backer Atomico. www.wrapp.com

Retailigence
, a Palo Alto, Calif.–based mobile marketing service for retailers, has raised $2.6 million in VC funding led by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital. www.retailigence.com

Identropy, a Moonachie, N.J.-based provider of identity and access management solutions, has raised $4 million in Series A funding from Milestone Venture Partners and Osage Venture Partners.www.identropy.com
