“I still don’t know if we have something. … Whether we have something that will last for a really long time or is just a cool toy for people to play with now, we’ll see. I think it’s actually useful and not necessarily just a fad.””
— Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook, circa 2005 (The Huffington Post)

* Online hackers group Anonymousreportedly released thousands of names, email addresses, home addresses, and phone numbers from myBart.org, an independent site linked to San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. The cyber attack was intended as retaliation against the shutdown of cell phone service last week at some BART stations intended to disrupt planned demonstrations over a police shooting. (The Next Web)

* Buddy Media, a company that helps brands manage their Facebook presences, raised $54 million during its most recent round of funding, valuing it at $500 million. (All Things D)

* Time Warner Cable (TWC) is reportedly far along in talks to buy Carlyle Group’s Insight Communications, the ninth-largest U.S. cable operator, for some $3 billion. (Bloomberg)

* How flash-sale site Gilt Groupe is refashioning itself as a high-end Amazon.com. (The New York Times)

* A hands-on preview of Google+ games, including Edgeworld. (VentureBeat)

* More images and renderings of Apple’s (AAPL) glorious new UFO-ish headquarters. (Fortune)

* Want to know what Mark Zuckerberg was like in 2005? Look no further than this five-minute clip that just surfaced in which the barefoot CEO celebrates the social network’s three-millionth user in a white cotton t-shirt and Adidas shorts. Among the revelations: Zuck says he’s not sure what the future has in store for Facebook, a quaint bit given the social network’s seeming omnipresence. Check it out for yourself. (The Huffington Post)
