Bloomberg reports that Appleis considering a bid to snap up online TV streaming service Hulu — doing so could cost the tech giant (or any other interested party) more than $2 billion. (Bloomberg)

* In other Apple news, more than one million copies of OS X Lion were purchased and downloaded on Day One. (As colleague Philip Elmer-DeWitt points out, in comparison, the company sold two million copies of  Snow Leopard in a weekend of sales two years ago.) (Fortune)

* The Winklevossessent a letter to Harvard University President Drew Faust to address Larry Summers’ comments at this year’s Brainstorm Tech conference in which he referred to the twins as “A**holes.” “We now further understand why our meeting was less than productive,” reads the letter in part. “Someone who does not value ethics with respect to his own conduct, would likely have little interest in this subject as it related to the conduct of others.” (LA Times)

* Mobile payments, another hot Brainstorm Tech topic, really is on the up and up. According to new data from Gartner research, mobile payment users will surpass 141.1 million in 2011, a 38.2% increase from 2010, with sales of $86.1 billion. (TechCrunch)

* Microsoft’s fourth-quarter earnings beat predictions with an operating income of $6.17 billion, up 4% from the same time last year, on sales of $17.37 billion, an 8% jump, driven largely by Office and Xbox sales. (CNET)
