  • OpenAI announced ChatGPT’s newest feature, Tasks, giving users the ability to use the chatbot as a digital assistant.

OpenAI on Tuesday introduced a new feature, called Tasks, which is rolling out to subscribers with Plus, Pro, and Team accounts. With Tasks, users can schedule ChatGPT to perform certain actions at specific times, and receive notifications via email or directly through their phone.

The Tasks feature can be accessed through the profile icon in ChatGPT. You can select suggested tasks or create personalized reminders by asking ChatGPT directly.

These scheduled notifications can range from minor reminders like, “Practice guitar daily,” to comprehensive summaries, “Give me an overview of today’s financial news at market close.”

OpenAI president and cofounder Greg Brockman said in an X post that the company will focus on agents in 2025. As it relates to AI, an agent refers to programs that can autonomously perform assignments on behalf of a user.

Bloomberg reported that OpenAI is expected to release an enhanced agent, dubbed “Operator,” later this month. The upgraded agent is essentially Tasks, but with capabilities to write code or book travel.

According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, “Agentic AI” is on the rise. During his keynote speech at CES 2025, he said that AI genetics will create a multi-trillion-dollar industry reshaping the workforce.

“AI agents are the new digital workforce,” Huang said.
