For many people heading to the polls on Tuesday, voting in this historic election means more than marking a ballot. After leaving the polls, voters took to Twitter and used #DedicateYourVoteToAWoman to honor the women who inspired them to vote.
The hashtag, created by writer Ashley Ford, trended as people shared stories about their grandmothers, mothers, daughters and other women who prompted them to do their civic duty.

To all the undocumented mothers who live with fear everyday. I am a child of immigrants. I voted for you.

For my grandmother, who was born in a town she couldn't vote in and never did until her move up north. #dedicateyourvotetoawoman pic.twitter.com/XxFziyfQOr
