Crystal Pepsi Is Back on Shelves Today

This story has been updated to reflect a response from PepsiCo.

Much like Pokemon and Gilmore Girls, Crystal Pepsi has amassed a cult following years after its moment in popular culture. And thanks to those loyal fans, the soft drink is returning to shelves today.

The caffeine-free, clear colored soda was first introduced in 1992 and was only offered for about a year after failing to catch on with consumers. More than 20 years later, 34,000 people signed a Change.org petition requesting its return. Pepsi heard the cries of Crystal Pepsi fans and responded.

Professional competitive eater Kevin Strahle was the first to be alerted to the beverage’s reintroduction when the company messaged him on Twitter in June of last year. That following December, Pepsi held a sweepstakes in which 13,000 lucky winners were chosen to receive a six-pack of Crystal Pepsi.

Fast forward six months to when the company announced that the rest of us would get a chance to taste the legendary drink. Fortune reported in June that Crystal Pepsi would be sold for a limited time in Canada starting July 11 and then find its way to U.S. retailers by August 8, for the price of $1.79 for a 20 oz. bottle.

A PepsiCo spokesperson told Fortune that the company has seen “a lot of consumer excitement in Canada since Crystal Pepsi launched last month,” adding that fans in the U.S. will be able to find the product at hundreds of major retailers.
