Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbardendorsed Bernie Sanders for president on Sunday and resigned from her post as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee.
The lawmaker, who served in Iraq as an Army National Guard major, made the announcement on NBC’s Meet the Press. “I think it’s most important for us, as we look at our choices as to who our next commander in chief will be, is to recognize the necessity to have a commander in chief who has foresight, who exercises good judgment,” Gabbard said. “As a veteran, as a soldier, I’ve seen firsthand the true cost of war,” she added.
Gabbard’s endorsement comes one day after Hillary Clinton’s decisive win against Sanders in South Carolina and before nearly a dozen states vote Tuesday.
