If there’s one thing rich people can’t live without it’s their helicopters, apparently.
The Wall Street bigwigs and other one-percenters who need to move quickly back and forth between Manhattan and the Hamptons — the playground of the privileged on the far eastern tip of New York’s Long Island — are upset about new restrictions on helicopter flights going in and out of the airport in East Hampton.
New rules — the result of a campaign from those living near the airport — allow each helicopter only one flight per week in or out of the airport, according to the New York Post. This is upsetting for uber-rich folks such as Goldman Sachs’ (GS) head honcho Lloyd Blankfein, the newspaper reports.
Not all is lost, though. The Post notes that seaplanes can still fly as much as they want.
The restrictions are expected to push more traffic to the helipad in Southampton, which is near Calvin Klein’s house, according to the article.
“It will be like ‘Apocalypse Now,’” one Hamptonite told the Post.
UPDATE:
A Goldman Sachs representative reached out to Fortune to refute the idea that Blankfein regularly takes a helicopter to the Hamptons. In eight years, he said, Blankfein has taken exactly one helicopter ride, and that was for a funeral when he was on vacation.
