FORTUNE — On Wednesday, developers at Game Oven released a choreography app for Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone called Bounden. They had planned a simultaneous release for Google (GOOG) Android devices, but late in the game they discovered a problem, as producer Eline Muijres explains on the Game Oven website:
We have been developing Bounden for Android alongside its development on iOS, and have tested the game on a number of devices. It was only a week ago that we started expanding our list of test devices, after we quickly discovered that:
a) some devices had ‘broken’ gyroscopes that didn’t work on all axis,
b) that some devices were faking gyroscopes by mixing and matching the accelerometer data with compass data, or
c) that some devices did not have a gyroscope at all.
She illustrates the problem with the attached Vine: Seven Android devices all running a compass app ironically named Steady Compass. “Releasing Bounden on these devices would be catastrophic.” she writes. “Imagine finding out the game doesn’t work on your device after spending $4… We want to avoid this scenario at all costs.”
