Shire PLC has agreed to acquire FerroKin BioSciences Inc., a San Carlos, Calif.-based developer of medicines used to manage iron for the treatment of disease. The deal is valued at up to $325 million, including a $100 million up-front cash payment. LifeLock Inc., a Tempe, Ariz.-based identity theft protection company, has acquired ID Analytics Inc., an existing provider of data solutions to LifeLock. To help finance the deal, LifeLock has raised $170 million, including over $100 million in new preferred equity.
Industry Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners, Keating Capital and CrossCreek Capital were joined on the equity tranche by return backers Bessemer Venture Partners, Goldman Sachs, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Symantec Corp. and River Street Management.
San Diego-based ID Analytics had raised over $35 million from firms like Canaan Partners, Mission Ventures, Trinity Ventures and Investor Growth Capital. www.lifelock.com
