Ares Management and the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board have completed their $1.6 billion acquisition of 99-Cent Only Stores for $1.6 billion, or $22 per share. As part of the deal, the discount retailer has delisted from the NYSE.  www.99only.com

The Blackstone Group has formed PQ Energy, a Zurich-based platform for acquiring and developing power generation facilities throughout Europe. No financial terms were disclosed. PQ Energy will be led by Rolf Kehlhofer, former president of ABB Power Generation, and Dominique Candrian, former vice president of ABB Energy Ventures. www.blackstone.com

Greenbriar Equity Group has acquired PetroChoice, a Riddlesburg, Penn.-based distributor of petroleum lubricant products, from KRG Capital Partners. No financial terms were disclosed. www.petrochoice.com
