Exclusive: PE execs plan new tech fund

Tech investors launch new private equity effort.

Andy Gesell and John Hodge, veteran private equity investors in the technology sector, are launching a new firm, Fortune has learned.

Gesell has been a partner with Court Square Capital Partners since 2004, before which he was a technology investment banker at Credit Suisse. Hodge is a former senior managing director with The Blackstone Group (BX) who transitioned into a senior advisor role last spring. Before that, Hodge worked with Gesell at Credit Suisse.

Multiple sources tell me that the new firm will focus on small-cap buyouts and growth equity opportunities in the tech space. One adds that the pair is hoping to raise between $200 million and $250 million for their debut fund.

Neither Gesell nor Hodge returned requests for comment.
