100 Fastest-Growing Companies

There is no single formula for producing exceptional growth. Fortune’s 2020 ranking of the world’s best three-year performers in revenues, profits, and stock returns makes that clear—and offers some insights into the forces driving the global economy. This year the financial sector surged into the top spot, placing the most companies on the list with 24, while the technology industry slipped to third with 20. Big Tech was still well-represented: Amazon (No. 10) makes its fourth straight appearance on the list and Facebook (No. 52) is ranked for a sixth consecutive time. More mature businesses made their marks as well. In fact, the average age of the companies on this year’s list rose by two years, to 40. Collectively, the ranked companies trounced the broader stock market, producing a three-year average shareholder return of 19% vs. 11% for the S&P 500.
