You’ve probably heard of probiotics, or at least seen various yogurt brands boasting about their specific strains. Gut health has become a priority in the wellness world, so probiotics—which are designed to boost digestive health—are getting a lot of attention. There are even probiotics designed specifically for women, and we’ve identified some that are good for men, too.

To get a more in-depth view, we asked our testing team to try Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic. Pete, a member of our testing team and a certified nutrition coach, tried it and shared his experience and analysis of the product label. Here’s what he loved, what he thought could be improved, and how Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic compares to some other brands we’ve reviewed.

Our Experience with Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic

Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic contains 10 probiotic strains and 100 billion CFUs, and the formula—which doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners, coloring, or preservatives—is designed to “support digestion, immunity, and gut microbiome diversity.” It’s also gluten-free, non-GMO, and vegan.

Transparent Lab also specifically mentioned the importance of gut health during athletic training, noting, “Whether you’re chasing PRs or pushing through demanding workouts, this probiotic helps keep your body in peak condition from the inside out.”

Our tester, Pete, tried this probiotic. Here’s more about his experience.

What We Liked

These are the things Pete liked about Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic.

  • Instructions (5 out of 5): Pete found the instructions, which were to take two capsules daily with a full glass of water (preferably on an empty stomach), very easy to follow.
  • Swallowability (3 out of 5): He noted the pills were average in terms of how easy they were to swallow. They weren’t huge, they weren’t tiny, they were pretty standard in size.
  • Side effects (5 out of 5): Pete didn’t report any side effects or digestive issues.
  • Taste (3 out of 5): The capsule had a neutral taste, so Pete rated it an “average” 3 out of 5.

Pete also commented on the formula, saying he liked the dose and variety of strains. Specifically, he explained, “The combined dose is 100 billion CFUs, which would be considered a strong probiotic supplement. Multi-strain probiotics are generally better than single-strain options as they can have a more robust effect on the gut microbiome.”

What We Would Change

  • Value (1 out of 5): While Pete generally liked Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic, the only drawback he noted was the price, which he rated a 1 out of 5. The cost per serving is $1.53, which translates to $45.99 per container, though choosing the “subscribe and save” option results in a 10-percent discount. If you’re looking for a solid budget option, we’ve also previously reviewed Nutricost Probiotic Complex, which is a fraction of the cost.

Who It’s For & Who It’s Not For

Transparent Labs Cut Health Probiotic received strong reviews from our tester, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a great fit for everyone. Here are some things to keep in mind if you’re considering this probiotic supplement. And as always, we recommend speaking with a healthcare provider before adding any new product to your routine.

For: People with digestive issues

Probiotics are generally designed to target the digestive tract, so people with certain digestive issues may see benefits from using a daily probiotic. For example, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) notes that taking probiotics might help with the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms, though it notes that effects vary depending on the probiotic strain being used, the length of time the probiotic is used, and the specific symptom being treated.

Not for: People with weak immune systems

According to the NIH, probiotics could potentially cause problems—including bacterial infections—in people who are seriously ill or who have weakened immune systems.

Frequently asked questions

Is Transparent Labs Gut Health Probiotic good?

Our tester, Pete, gave this probiotic high marks across the board. Pete is also a certified nutrition coach, and after analyzing the label, he said he considered this product “a strong probiotic supplement,” especially given its multi-strain formula. We also appreciate that the product is third-party tested, as supplements aren’t regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the same way medications are regulated. Whether it’s a good product for you, however, depends on your unique health needs and wellness goals, which is why we recommend speaking with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.

Is Transparent Labs legitimate?

Transparent Labs is an actual company, based in Utah, and the company often emphasizes transparency and third-party testing of its products. The company also makes its contact information easily accessible on the Transparent Labs website. Transparent Labs is not BBB-accredited, which doesn’t indicate a lack of legitimacy, but is worth noting.

What happens if you take a probiotic daily?

If you take a daily probiotic, results depend on your own health status, the type of probiotic you’re taking, including the specific strains, and a number of other factors. Generally speaking, according to the NIH, probiotics target the digestive tract and may help improve digestive function and other aspects of health. The NIH says probiotics may help with pediatric acute infectious diarrhea, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and more.
