- Best Friends Animal Society is offering a pet sleepover for Valentine’s. People can take home a dog or cat and spend the night with it to determine if it would make a good addition to their home.
Spouses, boyfriends, and girlfriends will disappoint you on Valentine’s Day. The law of averages makes it inevitable. But a four-legged love? Can’t happen.
Best Friends Animal Society, which has locations across the country and an extensive network of partner shelters, is offering people the chance to bring home a dog or cat for Valentine’s Day. It could turn into a lifelong relationship, but if not, you’ll still have a blind date to remember—without the inflated restaurant bill.
The organization is looking for people to host homeless pets for a sleepover on Valentine’s Day. They’ll provide the dog or cat, as well as pet food, beds, litter boxes, toys, and heart-shaped treats. The sleepovers are being offered in Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Northwest Arkansas, Salt Lake City, and Kanab, Utah.
Technically, it’s a short-term foster of the animals, but think of this as a potential love connection where you’re guaranteed to get a kiss. And if you and your overnight visitor hit it off, Best Friends will be happy to extend the fostering or take care of the adoption.
Adoption fees will be waved for anyone who hosted the animal for the Valentine’s sleepover.
This is the second year Best Friends has run this particular matchmaking service. And, like last year, you’ll get to pick your date. (Call it an animal version of Tinder.) There are about 465 cats and dogs to choose from at the majority of the participating shelters (with hundreds more in the Utah facility, the largest animal sanctuary in the U.S.).
If you happen to live in Bentonville, Ark., you have another option. Best Friends will host a Meet Your Soul Mutt speed-dating event this evening from 5 p.m.–7 p.m., letting you find a furry companion to spend a Valentine’s sleepover with.
