The White House included a parody article about their new budget blueprint in their daily roundup Friday.
“Your 1600 daily,” a roundup of news from the White House that includes memos and highlights from the Oval Office, has a section for news reports at the bottom. Oftentimes, these highlight positive coverage about the Administration.
Friday’s included a Washington Post article titled “Trump’s budget makes perfect sense and will fix America, and I will tell you why” — a positive-sounding headline.
As of Friday afternoon, the article was deleted from the White House’s online edition of the newsletter.
But the actual article, written by Alexandra Petri, is a parody of the budget blueprint, mocking the proposed cuts and the Administration’s defense of them.
“Clean rivers and breathable air are making us SOFT and letting the Chinese and the Russians get the jump on us,” Petri writes about the cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency. “We must go back to the America that was great, when the air was full of coal and danger and the way you could tell if the air was breathable was by carrying a canary around with you at all times, perched on your leathery, coal-dust-covered finger.”
