A balloon developed by a Google-owned company to increase wireless internet access in remote areas was mistakenly thought to be an unidentified flying object when it crashed in a field in Colombia.
The balloon crashed in the central Tolima province in Colombia, the BBC reports, terrifying local residents.
“We all thought it was a UFO or the remains of a space craft,” residents told a local paper, according to the BBC.
But the police ultimately identified the object as a balloon developed by X, which is owned by Google, (GOOGL) aimed to increase internet access.
Another balloon from the same company crashed in Sri Lanka in February 2016.
