Tis the season that America’s biggest retailers do just about anything to get your business.
For weeks now, retailers like Walmart (WMT) and Amazon (AMZN) have been duking it out to capture a larger share of the holiday shopping dollar, and have been especially keen to attract online customers.
So far, Amazon is absolutely trouncing its rivals in the e-commerce department, and the Seattle-based firm is looking to widen its lead in the days leading up to Christmas. That’s why it’s heavily pushing a new referral program that will give customers $5 if they refer friends to its mobile shopping app, according to a report in TechCrunch.
“Amazon has an award-winning shopping app that our customers love. We wanted to help give them a way to share it with an added incentive,” a company reprsentatitive told the online publisher. “So, we introduced a program that provides a $5 incentive for customers to refer a friend or family member to shop with the app.”
TechCrunch explains how to get the deal:
You may have spotted this promo when you launched the Amazon app installed on your phone. There, the ad appears, prompting you to “give your friends $5 to spend at Amazon.” You can either click “Get started” or “No, thanks” to opt out. A checkbox “Don’t show me this again,” will keep the ad from appearing at other times in the future.
