Legos could be hard to come by in some parts of the world this holiday season.
The Danish toymaker, now the largest in the world, announced this week that it may not be able to manufacture enough of its wildly popular toy bricks to keep up with demand through the rest of the year: “It is really extraordinary and it has exceeded both ours and our customers’ forecasts,” a company spokesman told Reuters.
Lego overtook Mattel (MAT) to become the world’s largest toy manufacturer in 2014. The company was given a big boost by the hit film The Lego Movie and is benefitting from other movie tie-ins this year with franchises such as Star Wars and The Avengers.
The shortage is only expected to affect some parts of Europe, including Lego’s home country of Denmark. In the U.S., the company said it will be monitoring supply chains to ensure the toys are available in the run-up to Christmas.
