Flipboard, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based social reading magazine for tablets, has raised $50 million in new VC funding at around an $800 million valuation. AllThingsD first reported the news, which Fortune has since confirmed. Rizvi Traverse Management and Goldman Sachs co-led the round, and was joined by return backers like Insight Venture Partners (taking more than its pro rata), Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Index Ventures.

Practice Fusion, a San Francisco–based free electric medical records platform, has raised $70 million in Series D funding. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers led the round, and was joined by OrbiMed Advisors, Deerfield Management Company and return backers like Artis Ventures. Practice Fusion previously raised around $64 million from Artis, Morgenthaler Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Band of Angels, Glynn Capital, Founders Fund, SV Angel and Barton Asset

UniversityNow, a San Francisco-based post-secondary education company with two accredited universities, has raised $19 million in Series C funding. Bertelsmann SE & Co. and First Analysis Corp. co-led the round, and were joined by return backers University Ventures, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, Kapor Capital, and Bronze Investments. NGdata, a San Francisco-based provider of customer intelligence management solutions, has raised $3.3 million in new VC funding. Capricorn Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by return backer Sniper Investments.

SimilarGroup, an Israel-based provider of online traffic measurement tools, has raised $3.5 million in new Series B funding from individual angels.

Synthace, a London-based applied synthetic biology startup, has raised £1.3 million in seed funding led by Sofinnova Partners’ Green Seed Fund.
