Virtustream Inc., a San Francisco-based provider of enterprise cloud solutions, has raised $40 million in Series D funding led by SAP. Past backers include QuestMark Capital, Intel Capital, Columbia Capital, Noro-Moseley Partners and TDF. The company previously raised $60 million.www.virtustream.com

Calastone, a London-based cross-border transaction network, has raised $18 million in new VC funding. Accel Partners led the round, and was joined by return backer Octopus Ventures.www.calastone.com

ALung Technologies Inc., a Pittsburgh-based developer of respiratory assist devices, has raised $15.8 million in Series B-1 funding. Allos Ventures led the round, and was joined by West Capital Partners, Birchmere Ventures, BlueTree Capital Group, PLSG Accelerator Fund and Smithfield Trust Co. www.alung.com

NextDocs, a Conshohocken, Penn.-based provider of regulated content management and compliance solutions, has raised $13.5 million in new funding. OpenView Venture Partners led the round, and was joined by Eastward Capital and Bridgebank Capital. www.nextdocs.com

ReferStar Ltd., a Dublin, Ireland-based talent acquisition platform that leverages social media for referrals, has raised around $1.6 million in Series A funding led by Granicus Ventures. www.referstar.com
