Even in her early 30s, as she was then, she out-energized novice employees 10 years her junior. But what stood out was her decisiveness. As an embedded reporter accompanying Mayer and her charges on that world tour, that’s what impressed me most about the former Wisconsin cheerleader and math nerd turned fashion setter and internet icon. It was Mayer’s ability to quickly perform intellectual triage, mentally poring through ambient data to reach a conclusion, and confidently declaring a course of action.

The technology integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer. The absence of the layer, usually about half-a-millimeter thick, not only makes the whole screen thinner, but improves the quality of displayed images, said DisplaySearch analyst Hiroshi Hayase.

In the mobile payments space that is becoming increasingly crowded with major players like Square and Google Wallet and minor upstarts like Venmo, PayPal has acquired its first company in over a year. While last year’s moves were aimed at mobile payments, this acquisition points toward bolstering PayPal’s digital wallet–the area where Square, Google Wallet and others have boldly entered before PayPal.
