WorkForce Software, a Livonia, Mich.-based provider of workforce management solutions for organizations with complex labor policies, has raised $17 million in Series A funding and mezzanine funding. Backers include K1 Capital and Triangle Capital Corp.

Puppet Labs, a Portland, Ore.-based provider of data center automation, has raised $8.5 million in Series C funding. Cisco SystemsGoogle Ventures and VMWare were joined by return backers Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, True Ventures and Radar Partners., a San Francisco-based online marketplace for freelance writers and small businesses, has raised around $700,000 in seed funding led by Crosslink Capital. Other backers include Douglas Feirstein (Liveops) and Jody Mulkey (Shopzilla).

Skorpios Technologies Inc., an Albuquerque, N.M.-based developer of composite silicon photonic technology, has raised $2 million in additional Series B funding from T-Venture. The round total is now $19 million, including earlier bacers Ericcson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Cottonwood Technology Fund and Sun Mountain Capital.

Advanced ICU Care, a St. Louis-based provider of tele-ICU programs, has raised an undisclosed amount of new venture funding. Trident Capital led the round, and was joined by return backers Versant Ventures, Arboretum Ventures and Catalyst Capital.
