Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) said that it plans to form a $1 billion “venture capital” fund to invest in companies whose technology relies on natural gas instead of overseas petroleum. The money will come from diverting up to 2% of the company’s annual drilling budget. Chesapeake also announced the new platform’s first two investments: $150 million into Clean Energy Fuels Corp.
