Rumored for weeks, Sprint finally announced its newest Android flagship phone from HTC today.

Wirefly does a great overview of the EVO Shift here (I have yet to lay my hands on one):

For my money, I like the Samsung Epic 4G hardware better (once it gets its Android 2.2 update).  The Sprint Epic 4G has a bigger five row keyboard (with hardware menu keys), bigger better screen and front facing camera and processor that is at least as fast as the Shift, probably faster.  Besides the lack of Android update, the only other Epic 4G weakness is the strength of HTC’s GPS which phones like the original HTC EVO have in spades.

One thing to look out for on this EVO Shift is battery life.  The original EVO’s Achilles’ heel is its lackluster battery life.  This device has a smaller screen and a 1500mA battery so I am optimistic.

Still, if you are looking for a Droid 2 type of device on Sprint, this is probably the device you should be after.  Full press release below the fold:

Sleek and streamlined, delivering a paramount mobile experience with the power of Sprint 3G and 4G
