Kleiner Perkins just announced that star tech analyst Mary Meeker has agreed to join the firm as a partner, after having spent most of the past decade with Morgan Stanley (MS).
KP has been searching for a “digital media” partner for a while now, as part of a new $750 million fund the firm is raising (it’s also raising $650 million for its next “general” fund). Not sure if Meeker fits that role, or if she is more of an opportunistic hire (my guess is the latter, but I am not yet sure).
According to a press release, Meeker will relocate from New York to Silicon Valley.
“KPCB has a long and exceptional track record of helping entrepreneurs build world-changing ventures and launch new industries,” Meeker said in a prepared statement. “We’re at the beginning of another great wave of tech innovation and I am incredibly excited by the opportunity to help the next generation of Internet technologies and leaders.”
