I constantly remind myself how lucky I am, as an editor at large at Fortune, to meet amazing people pretty much every day.

Yesterday I arrived in South Africa. It’s my first visit here, and it’s beautiful. Later this week, I’ll be in Cape Town with Bill Clinton, Katie Couric , Charlie Rose, former Viacom (VIAB), CEO Tom Freston, former Coca-Cola (KO) CEO Neville Isdell and such stars of the Fortune Most Powerful Women community as DuPont (DD) CEO Ellen Kullman, bank-industry analyst Meredith Whitney and NBC Universal (GE) exec Lauren Zalaznick.

But before I head to Cape Town on Thursday, I’m west of Johannesburg spending time with a remarkable woman named Susan Rammekwa, who is an alum of the Fortune-U.S. State Department Global Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership. Susan runs an orphanage, the Tshepang Programme for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, for 249 kids. One of the three Silicon Valley women who mentored Susan last year, a hotshot lawyer named Kathi Lutton, is with me. Susan’s other mentors, Google (GOOG) executives Susan Wojcicki and Megan Smith, are with us here in spirit.

In addition to heading litigation for law firm Fish & Richardson, Kathi happens to be a fantastic photographer. Here are a few of the 1749 pictures she snapped yesterday. Yes, that is not a typo…1749 pictures…
