Tchaikovsky gets Google Doodle from San Francisco Ballet

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the great Russian composer, was born on May 7th, 1840.

Google commissioned the San Francisco ballet to enact today’s Google Doodle to celebrate the 170th birthday of Tchaikovsky according to a Tweet by Marissa Mayer.

Google Doodles are changes to Google’s logo throughout its properties to celebrate important global events but often vary by country.

Doodles are known as the decorative changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists and scientists. Whether it is the beginning of Spring, Albert Einstein’s birthday, or the 50th anniversary of understanding DNA, the doodle team never fails to find artistic ways to celebrate these unique events.

An archive of Google’s Doodles and history are available on Google’s website.
