The Canadian Multi-touch, 3D desktop GUI maker will add to Google’s desktop and possibly portable products.
Over the weekend, the news slowly broke through that Bumptop had been acquired by Google. Bumptop makes a Windows and Mac desktop 3D multi-touch interface that allows gesture support above and beyond what is currently available in the market.
The move helps Google (GOOG) compete with Apple (AAPL) — and to a lesser extent, Microsoft (MSFT) — in the operating system user interface realm. Since the interface is a touch-desktop hybrid, it will likely rekindle rumors that Google’s Chrome project will include tablets.

You can still download the free Mac and PC versions of Bumptop for another week, but the Google buyout news has brought Bumptop’s bandwidth to a crawl. Pro users will still be supported throughout the acquisition process.
