“I think a developer would look like a geek,” says a young woman in the 5-minute video that opened Apple’s (AAPL) 25th annual developers conference.

The film goes uphill from there. By the end, the company has said in a dozen different ways that the 6,000 app designers and coders gathered in San Francisco this week for WWDC 2014 are the center of Apple’s universe, providing — as one speaker puts it — “a sense of being emancipated from technology.”
