Robert Hackett here from Fortune magazine, we're standing outside of the Apple store on 5th Avenue in midtown Manhattan, where we've come to watch a protest. Organizers have gathered to protest the recent court order that would demand Apple to help the FBI unlock data on an iPhone formerly owned by the San Bernardino shooter. As a longtime Apple follower And as a personal fan of TIm Cook, who I think is just a good person. I am glad that the FBI has come after Apple. Snowden, of course, has confirmed that we're all under much more scrutiny than Real security dictates. The FBI insists that this is only one unique case affecting one phone. Do you believe that to be so? It's absolutely not so. It's impossible to contain it to one phone. The FBI is looking to set legal precedent. They deliberately, Picked this case as a test case because they knew that the minute they used the word terrorism, at least half of this country would be so fearful they'd be willing to give everything up in order to save themselves. We can't just let people come in cuz they are too lazy or incompetent Confident to do their work. What happened before Apple had a button that did things? They're really shooting themselves in the foot if they think that breaking encryption is going to keep us all safe. It's really going to do the opposite. We need encryption to keep us safe. Technically, I don't actually own an iPhone. I mean, personally, I don't have an iPhone even. [ LAUGH ] I use a Samsung. I'm actually a recovering Apple user.
