[ MUSIC ] [ UNKNOWN ] When I talk to tech executives one of the things they always tell me is we can't find the right people. We can't find the people who have these skills whether they're about data or coding or this, that and the other. But we have all these people who are unemployed too. Right, right. It feels like there's a miss match here. There's a miss match. We have a half million jobs open. Actually I [ UNKNOWN ] In tech we have 5. 5 million jobs open in the United States, the largest chunk is this tech chunk. So what gives? Yeah, so half a million jobs. The jobs play 50 % more than the average American salary, they're fun, they're exciting, they're dynamic. But a lot of people just don't see them as for them. So how are we gonna bridge that gap? So one of the things President, we started With his support as the tech hire initiative. And what we're doing here is, we just don't have enough four year and two year degree sets. So, we're going as many of those, we're going to encourage as many, we want more people to come in do science and other technical fields. But for where we don't have them, let's use these new inventions, these [ UNKNOWN ] Alternative training methods, some of them look like kind of weekend things sometimes it's more intense like three month program it could be year on. But this great program that immerge in many of our cities and so. We just had Albrey Brown was here from Telegraph Academy. He actually was a graduate of one of these programs. Having not believed he could ever be in six figures right away, in three months and be a career scientist. And he was in [ UNKNOWN ] boot camp. He actually decided not to join the tech field, and instead found Telegraph. And is now working with the community and one of the things he talked about is specifically Really, you know engaging people and saying you know you can really do this. They have a one month class where they just get people trying this and they have a three month harder class it's very hands on. And they have I think it's 99 % placement people making 105 K, average salary, straight into the tech world. And he's based in Oakland It's so amazing to think about, you know, having personally just been in Silicon Valley, these divides, you know? The communities around Silicon Valley. Yeah. That are just not in the game. Right. And all that talent just waiting, you know? Let's pull them in and make people feel included. And use these creative, creative fields in tech- carrying includes the workforce development folks, and the municipal mayors and others getting involved and helping bridge that. And is everybody kind of? Taking responsibility for this, right, because you've got public sector, private sector, can we all get this, because you've got great implications, right, the businesses want the best talented people, and then of course the government wants a strong economy, so are you able to find common ground? It's happening, we already, we're at 35 cities, Baltimore just launched and they have a special emphasis on youth Yeah. Employment as well as everyone else, but we started Takire based on really four or five cities that we could already see doing it. So again, this like scout for who already has something. Right. What do you do and how you do doing? Workshop that together, and then see how we might scale it. In this case, the square team. Had gone to St. Louis. They were from St. Louis. They wanted to give back. They wanted an open office. They realized that all they were doing was stealing the same talent, and there's always other people in St. Louis. And, so they created a [ FOREIGN ] They actually used the Harvard online class, and just called an auditorium together. And they just brought I think about 80 folks or 160 ended in new tech jobs out of that chord. And they just keep doing it. They just opened a great start up center north of Del Mar, towards Ferguson with NAACP. [ UNKNOWN ] from Chicago moved in, and Launch Code bridging that. So you're just, St. Louis is getting it done, Louisville. Had a code blue so the work force folks were going and pushing their employers to take these new people. Philly was doing, New York, the state of Delaware who has credit card background is so much easier to check.. Sure. They [ UNKNOWN ] community colleges so this ecosystem was there and so we could see that that was something that was scalable and so we worked with different leaders. and any city that joins this pulls that ecosystem together. Employers talking to each other about hiring an alternative resume and getting that done. Boot camps in town. Getting the word out using work force systems to everybody. Incredible. And then join the tech community. You know meet- ups and CES and all this kind of fun thing. And come to the Consumer Electronic Show. Yeah. [ MUSIC ]
