[ MUSIC ] Hi I'm Sue Callaway, Car Columnist with Fortune Magazine. BMW's uber luxury mark, Rolls Royce, has recently come out with it's sportiest model to date. The $ 400, 000 Phantom Coupe. And while it's hard to imagine tossing this enormous debonair 2 door into corners, the engineers and crews swear that this is a Rolls to drive hard. [ MUSIC ] The company took the double floored aluminum space- frame from the Phantom Drop Head coupe, this car's convertible sibling and added a roof and roll cage. Assembling that space frame takes literally 150 yards of hand welds. [ MUSIC ] The coupe's gloriously unsubtle stance and styling really signal performance. From the more aerodynamic rounded nose, rather than the sedan's upright grill, to the flowing, flowing lines that taper to a contemporary boat tail at the back. They've even included big tailpipes to signal grunt, a very unusual thing for Rolls- Royce. [ MUSIC ] I love the rear hinged coach doors. At this size, unique to Rolls- Royce. And they've given you a really nice feature, a button with which to close the door, so you don't have to dislocate your shoulder reaching that far out. [ MUSIC ] You've gotta give it to BMW. They have spent a tremendous amount of money making sure that everything is the best of the best in this car. All you touch, yards and yards of the finest leather. All the woods are exotic book matched veneers. Even going at a good clip, the car is so quiet, it's extraordinary. And yet there's power, 453 horsepower V12. But more impressive, 531 pound feet of torque. That gives you 75 % of the car's full power at 1, 000 RPM. Wow! [ MUSIC ] It's remarkable, Rolls Royce has created a whole another stratosphere of engineering prowess perfection in this automobile. It's as if nothing could touch you while you're in here. And given the state of the world, that's not such a bad thing. Rolls Royce says that it's residual values are holding which is a whole lot better than the stock market. Now maybe they'd give me a nice ostrich- skin interior because this is the kind of sandbox I'd love to stick my head in right about now. [ MUSIC ]
