[ SOUND ] [ MUSIC ] When Audi applies it's engineering prowess to a production vehicle the result is impressive high tech performance. When Audi applies its engineering prowess to a race car The result is usually a trophy. Combine the two as the company did in the new RAV10 Plus sports car and the results are bullet proof and profitable. Audi's US unit just reported its 63rd consecutive month of sales increases. [ SOUND ] Audi introduced the first R8 in 2007. Two years later, it unleashed the R8 LMS race car. The race car and the street car are built at the same time, developed the same time, they share 50 % of the same parts. So the motor, everything that you see in the street car behind me is the same in the race car except how it connects with racing [ UNKNOWN ]. So you're getting that kind of durability, that kind of reliability and Track tested capabilities of the car, that trickle down into the street car as well. [ NOISE ] When Audi invited me to test the new 610 horsepower RAV10 + at the Daytona international speedway, it was only one answer. Yes, please. Thank you, Audi. The track's 3. 5 mile Sports Car course which includes the high speed banged tri- oval that Nascar uses, encourages some serious numbers from the R8, up to 185 miles per hour Or on the 31 degree banking. The RA, the most powerful production vehicle Audi has ever produced, didn't flinch. Now this is next generation of our multi- material space frame, it combines aluminum as well as carbon fiber for a light. Lighter weight and increased rigidity. The second generation is 40 % more rigid then the previous generation yet weights 8. 8 pounds less for the body and weight. All the shares 50 percent of its parts with the R8 racecar, it sacrifices none of the comfort. Air- conditioning, Bang and Olufsen sound system, Al Contera headliner and leather- wrapped carbon fiber seats. [ MUSIC ] Was there anything not to like? Yes, Audi's virtual cockpit, which puts all of the controls right in front of the driver, for ease of use, and for keeping hands on the wheel. It's high tech alright, but in my opinion, not exactly intuitive. None of that mattered on the track. What mattered was finding my own limit. So, they already didn't seem to have many. If everyone who buys the plus version for every 89, 000 or so, could run it on the banks of Daytona, the cost would hurt a lot less. [ MUSIC ]
