[ MUSIC ] I think when we talk about Roger Staubach, a whole long list of achievements comes to mind. Heisman trophy winner in Navy. Two time Super Bowl champ of the Dallas Cowboys. Super Bowl MVP, hall of famer, and the list goes on. What most people don't know about is his post football career. Which is been very successful. In which he began early on in his career during an off season. So my off season if I was single guy I would've played golf and done all the things you do in the off season. But I had a wife and three kids. So I made up my mind to try to work in the off season. I had an engineering degree from navy. But i wanted to get involved in sales business and, so i wanted to work for a real estate firm. It was a gradual process and you can't things don't happen over night it takes a lot of months of preparation to get spectacular results, and i learned a lot in those years with the Henry Miller Company, and it made a big difference as far as my credibility. When i started my own real estate firm. Firm. After retiring in 1979 Staubach launches what was 12 off seasons in the making. His own real estate firm. But the Staubach company takes a unique approach, working directly on the customer side, with tenants. Which is unheard of in the business. We started out selling you know, buildings and land. But my, my goal was to, to work with the corporate user. And so I saw the, the value of being to help the user. And, and all of the sudden you know, we got hired by Steak and Ale International Paper Commercial Metals. And, and so it, it really it was exciting. It was you know we were building. A Business that was somewhat unique as far as our services. We just took off like a rocket << in less than 30 years Starbock real estate in over 60 offices and 1100 employees. In 2008 he sold the Starbock company for 613 million dollars. [ MUSIC ] And in keeping with his much renowned character, Starbock contributes 88 % of the stock after that sale to 300 of his employees. I think it shows that he never forgets about the people who helped him along the way. In sports and business. I've always believed, you know, having the right people in the right places is, is critical but having the right people in the right places working together, miracles happen. They had ownership in their offices. But we worked as one team. And we eventually, merged the one stock, after 30 years. And. And there were there were over 300 and some shareholders that benefitted from building a great company and I was very proud because I was you know I was the head of the company and I had my name on the door and I worked very hard to help build the company but I I did it with fantastic a leadership in all the offices we had and. And, and I, and I learned that, you know, as a quarterback you can't do it by yourself. His whole success has been hard work, I mean, he, he, he saw his parents working hard. So, he's a phenomenal athlete, I mean there's no question about it. He's as, he's as talented athletically as, as. You know, anybody you'll ever meet. But he worked really, really hard. Whether it was football, or in the Navy, or in business, and so I always saw the hard work, integrity, the honesty, the loyalty. The things that he preaches are more important to him than anything else. I mean here's an all American, Navy Alum, Vietnam Vet. Someone who could have done anything after football. And instead he eyes real estate from the beginning. But now he's a titan within that industry. To take a business from scratch to 1500 employees, 60 offices across the country, international business, international presence again is rarer than winning two Super Bowls. If you read Sports Illustrated you know that he's in the top 15 or 20 quarterbacks of all time. Somewhere in that range and he's in the top five real estate executives of all time. [ MUSIC ]
