[ MUSIC ] Welcome to Fortune Tech Debate where we debate the issues of the day in two minutes. Today we're discussing robot maker Boston dynamics which recently released a video of a robotic dog battling with a human to enter a doorway. And how worried should, Should we be about how these robots are progressing? I think not that worried. It's opening a door. It's not trying to take over the world. It's very reasonable, and it could do great things in the future. Yeah, but did you look at this video? I mean, this robot is really having a scuffle with this human. The human's poking and prodding it- No! with a hockey stick. And the robot is trying to duke around it and evade him and open that door. Totally defensive, there was no offense there, it was trying to dodge the human so it could open the door. It looks a little bit aggressive to me. And besides, what happens when these robots start getting more aggressive and they are able to, you know, Not just react to being prodded but actually you know, perform more functions out in the world and be a little bit more aggressive that seemed like a scary prospect to me. I think that we do have to, as we build this technology. I think we have to keep in mind that it could potentialy destroy the world and therefore be proactive about regulation and make sure it doesn't. Maybe building it a killswitch. If the robots get a little to crazy. Yeah, well Isaac Azimov, the scifi writer back in the day, he had his rules of robotics, they can't harm humans. [ CROSSTALK ] Adhere to rules of robotics, we're gonna be fine. Sure, but coming from a security perspective, I'm always worried about hackers getting into things. We're seeing with the Internet of Things, trying to connect everything up to the Internet, it's very easy to subvert, The original functions of certain products. And so I think at a certain point in time you're gonna have hackers come in and kind of rejigger the mechanics around these robots. They're gonna start going wild and before you know it it's Terminator all over again. I think that's why we have to be really careful about how they're developed. And I think you will start to Take into account the potential. This could cure hunger. They could do all kinds of things. They can end war. It could also destroy the world. It could destroy the world. If you look at the up side, it is enormous and if we plan the development of these technologies with that in mind, we can probably prevent the down side. One of the first applications that I think we're gonna start seeing Boston Dynamics Robots is in warfare, I mean that's why they developed Big Dog, this robot's cousin.
