Founded by its namesake in 18 95 it was acquired by L Brands back in 1985 in 2000 and nine. On Re Bendel did away with apparel, with handbags and accessories making up the core of the business. L brands plans to focus on Victoria's Secret and other core businesses, with Andrea Bendel accounting for just $85 million of the company's $12.6 billion in 2017 revenue in its 123 year history. On Re. Bendel became one of New York's most iconic department stores from bringing Coco Chanel's designs to America back in 1913 to hiring Andy Warhol as an in house illustrator in the sixties. The company also claims to have led the way by introducing semi annual sales in store in store displays. The closure of angry Bendel follows Lord and Taylor's announcement this summer that it would close 1/5 of its stores, including its flagship store on Fifth Avenue
