So you want to start investing. But where do you start? What should you invest in? What should you avoid? Where do I even go to buy stocks for this edition of fortunes Quarterly Investment Guide? We the experts are sharing some advice for the first time investors. If you're an investor and you're looking for the first thing to do, focus on cash flow. This means understanding how money comes in and out of your life. I think I would tell them to not stress too much about learning everything there is to know all at once. That's really important for you to become intellectually engaged. This is not gonna, it's gonna feel like work unless you're intellectually engaged. So get to know what is the capital markets, Why are they so important in our lives? The best way to learn about investing is by doing it, but not doing it with just A couple of stocks here or there. Some of the best ways to get involved are really through broad-based index funds rather than by specific companies or individual stocks. What you can do is buy the entire market things like the S&P 500 or the Russell 2000. And then if you get really interested in individual companies and you want to do some of that stock research and become an expert in that, then you can use a tiny portion of your money to go what I call play around with it. Right Miss sandbox type of account where you're not gonna miss it. If you lose the money. Mm Some of the things first time investors should avoid are speculating or buying derivatives called options. Things that can put you in a pretty bad situation if you get the wrong way, don't be short sighted. In other words, when you lose something, don't hurry up, at least stick around for what that loss will teach you. The thing I would avoid doing is jumping all in just on a trend. Especially not on mean stocks, the ones that you hear about in the news all the time. Because by the time you hear about them, probably too late, there is no best time to buy and sell just to be clear. Market timing has been proven to be detrimental for everyone. Obviously, you would hope that someone could buy when the prices are lower. Right. So 10, that tends to be when things are on sale. You might hear that term when the prices of companies or investment funds have come down. Typically, that means the market has come down as well. But timing the market, trying to understand or predict when the market is going to go up or down is pretty futile. No one can predict us and no one can do it consistently. So you're better off just being consistent about investing in the market on a regular basis. There are so many ways out there nowadays to do that. So many ways. Yes, you can engage a financial advisor. I think financial advisors are really helpful to navigate if you don't have to start their, their online platforms that you've heard of like Fidelity or vanguard Charles Schwab. These are some of the biggest brokerage houses out there and you can set up an account and learn to do this on your own or you can employ the services of a robo advisor. This is a service that will do all the investing for you, assuming you answer some key questions, so keep you discipline, will generally invest in low cost, passive index investments. You do need to set up an account somewhere. You will have to set up an account of some sort. You're not just going to waltz into the new york stock exchange on Wall Street and like Go in there and say, Hey I've got $100, I want to buy a stock that's probably not going to work crypto currencies is still such a speculative investment, meaning we don't have really solid data or information about what we would expect out of that kind of investment. The first thing I would suggest is to educate before you allocate, so make sure you know what's going on in this relatively new space or asset class, it would be good to start dabbling even in crypto because the way we learn as humans typically is we have to do by learning and sometimes if we double that teaches us even more, but just like anything that's new and exciting, Take a minute to learn and educate yourself on how they work, the underpinning technology, Blockchain and really the entire ecosystem that is decentralized finance. Uh huh.
