[ MUSIC ] Fortune 500 are the 500 largest US based companies by revenues. The combined revenue for the Fortune 500 is $ 13. 7 trillion. Almost equal to two- thirds of the United States GDP. How do you get on the fortune 500, you make more money than anybody else. At least $ 5. 6 billion is needed to make this year's list. Their primarily publicly traded companies, although we do consider some private companies as long as we have visibility into their revenues You may have heard the expression, voting with your wallet. This list tells you who's winning that popularity contest. The Top 10 of the Fortune 500 didn't really change that much. You still have Walmart coming in at number one followed by Exxon Mobil. Although number three Apple did move up a spot. And that's followed by Berkshire Hathaway, which dropped down one. The biggest story in the top ten of the Fortune 500 was Amazon. Amazon's continued growth, both with its e- commerce business and its websources business propelled it three spots higher this year to number five. We had a newcomer to the top ten this year, Amerisouce Bergen. It's a pharmaceutical distributor and one of the reasons they were able to make it into the top 10 is because two automakers GM and Ford actually had pretty weak revenue growth. So it was able to leapfrog those two companies .>> Amerisourse Bergen might not be a household common name, but they probably influenced the lives of millions and millions of Americans because they're literally responsible. For the drugs that you get free off pharmacies, the prescriptions that you get from your doctors. They are in charge of delivering those products to you. Another thing we saw on the 500 this year was a big jump up. But by some other big national home builders. We're talking companies like Lennar and TOLL Brothers [ UNKNOWN ] up the list by 50 or 60 spots. And this is a sign of a healthy economy. You're seeing home prices going up, you're seeing more demand from homes as more families get on the financial [ UNKNOWN ] and are ready to kinda buy that for a starter home. The energy industry It didn't do so well two years ago and it's been rebounding ever since then. This year all of those companies are making more money than before and they're digging in their hills. Chevron moved up two spaces, Phillips 66 moved up five spaces and Valero is up 7 spots. [ MUSIC ] I think that they question for alot of people who look at this list year after year as can anyone take down Walmart. Walmart is the. Hundred pound gorilla in the room. They are massive. They make over $ 500 billion a year in sales so it is not easily displaced. That being said Apple and Amazon are growing at double digit pace Is Amazon and Apple continue their current trajectory and revenue growth rates they actually will surpass Walmart and the next five years however, it's really really hard for big companies to keep up that kind of growth over The long run. [ MUSIC ] Jeff Bezos wrote in his recent shareholder letter that Amazon is still small. Now that might seem kind of crazy because Amazon is a giant, but as Bezos points out, 90 % of sales in retail are still done in brick- and- mortar stores. That gives Amazon a ton of room to keep growing, and that is a huge threat to Walmart moving forward. [ MUSIC ] This year's list saw an unusually robust economy reflected in all the numbers. Big revenue gains for a lot of the companies, big profit gains for a lot of the Companies. It's really hard to predict what will happen with next year's list. We could have a list that looks very similar. Maybe just some jockeying for position, or something could happen in a specific industry, something could happen with the economy, where we would see that trend be thrown off and could be a completely different looking list.
