 SPEAKER 1: If you could boil it down to a very quick sentence or two, what's the most exciting thing going on at Microsoft today? SATYA NADELLA: The thing that for me that's most exciting is refocusing the company on something that we uniquely can do in this mobile first Cloud first world, which is focusing on productivity broadly defined and platforms that support it. SPEAKER 1: And a lot of people say that technology is only helping the haves and not the have nots. How do you see that? SATYA NADELLA: That's a super important problem. I think that if we really want to have the benefits of technology truly solve some of the hard problems, I mean take in on unemployment rates, and getting to a place where an unemployment is not an issue in the world, and new technology has to play a huge role in it. And it's got to start with how did the rewards of technology spread more evenly in society. And so productivity for me is that's why a core focus for us. It's not about just productivity of an individual in a developed economy, it's about productivity of that farmer in Africa so that they can get more out of their time, get more out of their money and resources. And that's how I think we can make a huge difference. SPEAKER 1: What's the most exciting trend that you've seen in technology over the past few years or going on right now? SATYA NADELLA: I would say two things that really stand out. One is finally that at the threshold of what I would call the more human computing. If you look at the natural ways we can interface with the computer, how the computer understands you. A lot better, I mean we're in still in perhaps the Stone Age as some of my computer scientists like to remind me, but we're at the threshold. And especially a feature that we have on Skype and Skype translation, the fact that you and I can be speaking in a German and Italian and then conversing in real time. That's a real breakthrough. It all comes though because of the ability to reason over large amounts of data using new statistical techniques in machine learning. The combination of this more human ways to interface with computing, and the power of data, that I think could be revolutionary in terms of impact.
