Another big blow for Japanese auto airbag maker Takata. Honda's recalling 2. 2 million vehicles with Takata airbags. It says that in some Honda and Acura vehicles, the driver's side airbag inflators can explode and hurl shrapnel. This latest recall comes on top of the January announcement that 5 million other vehicles need fixes to airbag systems. Affected models ranged from the year 2005 to the new 2016s. In addition, a separate airbag issue is forcing the recall of over 300, 000 Accord sedans. Worldwide Takata airbag Airbag problems have been cited in at least 11 deaths and 139 injuries. No inflater ruptures have been reported in any of the newly recalled vehicles yet, but Honda is not taking any chances. New parts will be available this summer. And the company will replace the inflaters for free.
