[ SOUND ] Jeff Bezos is one of three, we call them three- peats on the list. Yeah. Time Cook, Pope Francis, Jeff Bezos, have been on the list each of the past three years. But this is a calendar year list. So they have to prove themselves again each year, is that right? That's the rule, you have to re- qualify if you want to repeat. And so they've each done that in Someway, Bezos for all the reasons that Adam just explained. Pope Francis really did a number of things in the past year. He helped broker the deal between the United States and Cuba to reopen relations and he made some very significant statements. One on the climate and another on What he called the idolatry of money, and just reminding people that it actually isn't the most important thing in the world. And Tim Cook, of course, for what's going on in this large debate over privacy and opening up that iPhone, he doesn't know how it's gonna turn out. The leadership was, he said, it's time to resolve this. It's time for the society To face this question. Right. One of the things I love about this list is the people that are not known at all. Right. We pulled these people from all corners of the world. So who are some of your favorites that the world might not already know about? Well, there are a few of them, and I've written them down. 'Cuz I didn't know them until we started working on this. Right. Sheikh Hasina, who is the prime minister of Bangladesh. She gets no attention here, but she is changing cultural things there, particularly with regard to the role of women in the society in a very impressive way. And it takes a lot of courage and leadership. Mark Edwards, professor at Virginia Tech, who led a team of people To flint Michigan quite a while ago. He's a world expert on water safety. A MacArthur Genius Grant recipient which most people are not aware of. He led the team that uncovered the trouble there that has now turned into such a huge event, really important. Rosey Batty in Australia she founded the Luke Batty foundation. The fight family violence, because her family suffered something Mm hmm horrible. Her husband killed their son with a cricket bat Unbelievable. The police shot the husband. Unbelievable. But she's now leading this big movement. Interesting. Speaking of leading movements- Yes. There are not, we're in the middle of a presidential election. Yeah. And no one who's running for president is on our list, why? That's exactly right. Because, first of all, they're applying for the world's top leadership job. They don't have it yet. They don't have it yet. And, we're just gonna have to wait and see. And frankly, we want to see a sort of longer record. Of leadership in the role that they're trying for, before we name any of them. A few other political figures are on the list, Paul Ryan is one. Yeah, you know, I love this. There's this pairing, Paul Ryan and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are both on the list, a prominent conservative, a prominent liberal. They're both on the list and the lesson I draw from this They're both incredibly smart and dedicated to the substance of their work. They're not out there speechifying and being ideologues. Paul Ryan is a true policy wonk. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a true intellectual and scholar. The result being, both of them are admired by people who don't agree with them, and don't we want to see more of that in Washington? Possibly a good test, absolutely. Before we let you go, I also have to ask you about Lynn Manuel Miranda. The hottest person on Broadway or arguably in Hollywood these days, if you call it that. Why is he on the list? Because he wrote this incredible hit musical called Hamilton. It's about Alexander Hamilton, he plays Alexander Hamilton. And it is a work of tremendous ambition and originality. Optimism about the founding of the republic and all of the founding fathers are portrayed by minority actors, and yet it is in a way non political. People across the spectrum are loving this, and that's true Leadership. Have you seen it yet? No, you can't get tickets. You need to know somebody. You need to know a leader to get tickets.
