[ MUSIC ] Welcome to Fortune Tech Debate, where we debate the issues of the day in two minutes. Today we're talking about the annual Consumer Electronics Show, which we are right here. All right, we're gonna put two minutes on the clock, right here on my phone. All right, Erin, Go. So the question is always, is CES overhyped? is it worth it? None of the big consumer electronic companies like Apple, for example, do anything here. Sure. And I've always been about persuasion, however, this is my first time actually coming to CES, and my mind has been changed. Sure there's lots of really dumb stuff like smart hair brushes and smart mattresses. And a drone rodeo .>> A drone rodeo is kind of cool though. But theres some much really cool stuff especially in the VR department. Mind blowing and I'm really excited about the different screens that I'm seeing. So anyways I'm on board for CS. I'm a new convert. I'm gonna be on the record here as the kind of, perhaps, jaded cynic. I've been here many many times and the Consumer Electronics Show is very useful in the context. It's a trade show. It's really good for the people who have boots and need to meet each other and do deals, right. I mean business development here is really fantastic. But I'm really not so keen on the gadgets and the announcements and the news. The news is typically expected, it's not typically disruptive, right? It's incremental, and you said it yourself, the biggest tech companies are typically not hearing an official capacity. Microsoft doesn't have a booth. Okay, okay, we'll go through that. Apple doesn't have a booth, Google doesn't have a booth. They have their own events. Amazon And they don't need to be here, that's tough. You can complain that the only new innovation that we've seen for a long time is just screens, bigger screens, curved screens, different kinds of screens. But actually the whole entire center of the show has shifted to cars, and that stuff is really, really exciting to connect the car area of CES's Extra exciting so I'm all about that. Well, i will give you that. There's definitely more announcements around cars than there ever have been. And frankly, maybe that's where we should just kind of meet in the middle here. [ CROSSTALK ] She'll be in Detroit instead? Consumer electronics show is not really consumer electronics. It's just the car electronic show.
