Welcome to Broad Strokes Fortune Show. We talk about the news that matters to women. Ann, this week I think we should start with a name you might not have heard for a while since the primary's probably. Carly Ferrina. Ferrina joined the cavalcade of big names who are going to the Trump Towers. To meet with Donald Trump. Apparently she is talking to him about a possible cabinet position. This would be director of national intelligence. The meeting's particularly interesting to me because, you know Fiarino was a really fierce critic of Trump during the early part of the campaign. And also, after the Access Hollywood tape came out she said, he should drop out, he shouldn't be running at all. Yes, and I think a lot of people were harsh critics of Donald Trump, but she was specifically a moral critic. She was criticizing his moral failings for being sexist on the campaign. And so to come around As quick as she did it was kind of jarring to see. There is certainly an argument to be made that you know there's an issue of party unity, there's the idea that if you really care about government you should serve no matter who is running it, however for me personally I really felt like this was a slap in the face I mean she ran as a feminist. Donald Trump gave this interview with Rolling Stone where he essentially made fun of her face And she made this a big issue in her campaign. She made a really effective ad talking about it. I feel like she really just wrapped herself in the flag of feminism when she thought it might help her get elected, and as soon as that didn't work, she just abandoned it. In some ways, you have to almost respect the pragmatism. I mean, if the Republican party is moving one way and you wanna place in that party, you sort of have to go along. But it is unfortunate that. Moving that way means kind of abandoning the feminist ideals that she was championing. In, maybe, brighter news, let's talk about Wonder Woman [ LAUGH ]. [ LAUGH ] Okay. The UN honorary ambassador, Wonder Woman, is no longer part of the organization. She has been fired. [ LAUGH ] I was a little sad about this, but what do you think? I mean, it was a short tenure, I think they announced her in October. It's not totally surprising to me. I mean, there were immediately protests about this. Basically it's sorta people are saying here's a white woman, who is very well endowed, who is wearing underwear and a bustier, and This is the only person you can find to be an ambassador for women and girls? Yes, but I will say that all superheroes wear spandex all the time, like if you see Robin's speedo. I was a little bummed when Wonder Woman got the boot, because I think she does stand for something that is good, that women can kick **** I think part of the real issue here is that the UN just had a vote for Secretary General. There were seven women in contention and none of them got the job. And I think a lot of people felt like they didn't get a good look. The UN has never been led by a woman, and that seems like a real problem to me. I feel like that's sort of how it was just Simmering underneath this Wonder Woman issue, and maybe that is the real problem for the organization. In other big news this week, Roger Ailes is back. Yet another sexual harassment case has been filed against the former CEO of Fox News, this one by a woman named Lidia Curanaj. She is a reporter for Fox Five. Apparently, he called a Gregory Ball, who's a New York State Senator that she had dated at one point, and basically asked him, how was the sex? Do you think she'll put out? These are the actually words that are used in the case. And, Ball responded by saying she's a good girl. I don't think she'd go for that. This Roger Ailes' something like twentieth sexual harassment allegation. There might be more. There are so many women coming out And saying that this is what happened to them, and i think it speaks to a lager problem than larger Ls because everyone knew about this. It say more about the culture than it does about this one guy. Thinking about the whole speaking to a larger problem. I mean think about this conversation. This are two men discussing this woman like she is any image object and what I would hope is someone like what will we do in this situation. Come and say like. This conversation is not okay. But for him to play along? It's really upsetting to me. If we're gonna get rid of the Roger Ailes of the world, we need men to help us do that. Right, it shouldn't just be 20 plus women with a sexual harassment suit. it should take less than that. Yeah Unfortunately, that's all the time we have this week on Broad Strokes.
