We don't see a lot of turnover in this Walmart is the biggest employer on the Fortune 500, with 2. 2 million employees. We also see Kroger, Yum China, a lot of companies in the retail sector continue to dominate. Amazon's the second biggest employer, but that could change if it continues to automate its work force. Just look at something like Amazon Go where you can have a whole store operate without cashiers. You just go in, grab a product of the shelf, and get out of [ INAUDIBLE ] The top 10 biggest employers make up 6 million people. That actually is 20 % of the aggregate list overall. Here are three surprising numbers about this years biggest employers from the Fortune 500. 2. 2 million, that's the number of people employed by Walmart. That's more than the combined populations of Wyoming, Vermont, and Alaska. Well, 2. 2 million is a huge number. Walmart actually shed around 100, 000 jobs last year as it restructured its international operations. 65 that's the number of fortune 500 companies employing 100, 000 people or more. On the other end of the spectrum, six companies employ fewer than 2000 people. overall the Fortune 500 represents 28. 7 million jobs .>> Zero, when you compare the top ten most profitable companies with the top ten biggest employers, there is zero crossover. That said, five of the top ten biggest employers do rank number one in terms of profits in their respective industries That's IBM, UPS, Walmart, Berkshire Hathaway, and Home Depot.
