[ MUSIC ] Amazon, Facebook and Google are investing heavily in artificial intelligence technologies except for Apple. Robert is it a strategic mistake. Not at all, let's back up for a second and explain where we're coming from. Google recently released a bunch of products that have AI baked right into them. You've got a chat app, Aloe, that they came out with, also a connected home hub, both of them are big on AI. But this has led a bunch of people including Marco Arment, a very well known, very well respected programmer to say Hey, maybe Apple is missing out on the next big thing. I don't think this is the case because Apple has great hardware, they have the best computers, the best laptops, the best phones. And as long as they're selling the greatest products, they're gonna be in no trouble. Yeah, the best according to them. I mean I agree with you, that's their mission, to provide the best. But But you gotta ask yourself, aren't these technologies kind of cords in the product experience now? Okay, look, you have an iPhone, right? You make a typo. The phone corrects it. What's doing the work? Artificial intelligence, right? Well, I don't make typos. You, yeah. Okay. Well, I have a typo then. So let's flip it around. You open iTunes. You wanna create a genius playlist. What tells you that the next song is the one you want to hear? Machine learning technologies. These things are kind of one and the same now and that's the issue. So the big question in my mind is, does Apple have to bring that stuff in- house to compete? And I say, yes. Okay, look, Amazon has Alexa. Sure, you've got Facebook and Microsoft, they both are going big on AI bots But we're forgetting something. Siri has been a part of Apple for a long time now. It's been embedded in their gadgets. It's one of the first companies to embed an AI agent in their hardware. You're making my point for me. They've got a horse in this race. They have not dropped the ball Yeah, but who actually powers Siri, it's not Apple. It's a company called Nuance Communications in Massachusetts and that's the key thing here. They are the ones who get to own the data. They're sitting on this data, they been assembling it for years and years, decades even. And that's the core thing. Let's say Apple buys Nuance tomorrow right? Plenty of cash. Right. For sure. But then what, then what? Marco [ UNKNOWN ] argument is that Apple would still be behind. Google, Facebook, Amazon, they've been working on this stuff for years. And that's the big issue. So in my mind, you've gotta ask yourself is Apple the next, bear with me, Blackberry? Is Apple the company that's watching the world change and it's still just working on refining and making the best Old tech products. No way. The comparison to Blackberry is crazy, cuz Apple is leading the way on one front that people are neglecting to remember, privacy. Apple has shown how far it will go, the extent it will go to keep your personal data private. We've seen what they did in the battle against the FBI earlier this year Meanwhile you have Google, which is happy to collect your data, feed it to their AI algorithms, just so a machine that can pretend to know you a little bit better.
